Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 13 year old said this tooth was hurting him when he bit down in class. So, he just painfully pulled it out. He is really concerned because the tooth has a root on it. It is the second one from the back on the top right side.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read through the complaint and the relevant details.

Considering the age of your son, I am pretty sure it is the milk tooth that he has forcefully pulled out. Ask him if the tooth was loose and that he was not able to chew food properly on that side. Do not worry because it is a milk tooth which will otherwise shed on its own around this age if he had not pulled out himself. That empty space will be occupied by a permanent molar tooth eventually. You must have noticed that the pulled out tooth has uneven roots. It is a normal thing to be. Now my advice is that, please visit a nearby dentist to ensure there are no tooth remnants left behind in the socket which if present might hinder the eruption of the subsequent permanent tooth. Also, make sure there is no bleeding in that region and ask your son not to play and touch that region with his tongue. These are the ways one could help the socket heal properly.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
