Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Do children lose all of their teeth? I have a dentist who says there are permanent teeth children do not lose and that this cavity that seems to be forming should be taken care of because that tooth will not fall out. This is the tooth all the way in the back of a six-year-old's mouth that has not fallen out yet. So, do children lose all their teeth and is there any teeth that remain from the first like a growing six -year-old? Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

How are you doing?

Children have 20 milk teeth (10 each in upper and lower jaws) which shed till the age of maximum 10 to 12 years. The permanent teeth erupt in their places and the three permanent molars erupt behind the primary teeth. According to the age, I think you are talking about the permanent first molar that erupts at 6 years of age and hence, it is advisable to go for filling as it will not shed. The permanent molars do not have any milk tooth predecessors and hence you may get confused with the milk teeth. It is better to get any cavity in the tooth filled in the initial stages itself unless it is very mobile (pre-shedding mobility). You can send me a picture of the tooth to guide you further. Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
