What causes missing permanent lateral incisors?
Patient's Query
Hello, Doctor,
My temporary right lateral incisor was knocked out, followed later by my right canine. Over time, my canine began to grow back, but my lateral incisor still has not appeared.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
In this situation we need to do a panoramic X-ray to find out the problem, we have two scenarios for this:
-
Either lateral permanent tooth is missed, and in this case, you may need orthodontic treatment to create enough space and then place the implant in the space of the missed lateral after the age of 18.
-
The Lateral tooth is present but embedded in bone because of insufficient space, in this case orthodontic treatment is needed to create a space for lateral and then perform minor surgery to expose the embedded lateral and join it with orthodontic treatment.
So visiting your dentist with a panoramic X-ray is mandatory.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
