Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a persistent twitching in the shoulder, thigh, and calf muscles for the past four weeks. I have sore throat, trouble swallowing saliva, food, water and clear throat frequently for the past week. I ate tablet Olanzapine 5 mg. I am concerned about motor neuron disease (MND). Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

When did you start taking tablet Olanzapine and what was the indication? It does not seem to be MND (motor neuron disease) because the course is short. Follow the below instructions;

1. I suggest you to take electromyography.

2. Check your serum potassium, calcium, magnesium, CK-MM (creatinine kinase - skeletal muscle).

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

There is a persistent twitching but no atrophy or muscle loss in the arms. It mostly occurs while stretching, bending or at rest. I started taking tablet Olanzapine regularly for the past two months. What is the reason? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Most cases of MND are sporadic, it does not have a genetic predisposition. The difficulty in swallowing is a concern but be careful about aspiration. Consult a neurologist for physical examination.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
