What causes bleeding from my pimple-like bump?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 21-year-old male with a bump with a small rash around it. I noticed it forming yesterday but thought it was just a pimple. But now the bump is getting bigger with a dark red color and a white center. I tried to pop it, and little blood oozed out. I am not on any medication.

Please help.

Thank you very much for your guidance and support.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

On examining your picture (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), it seems to be Molluscum contagiosum. Molluscum contagiosum virus can cause this condition. Each lesion presents with central umbilication (a depression similar to the navel) and a white body inside the bump.

It is a contagious STD (sexually transmitted disease) that can spread and form new lesions. Immunosuppression must be ruled out by doing tests like HbsAg (Hepatitis B), anti-HCV (antibody to Hepatitis C), VDRL (venereal disease research laboratory test), HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), and blood sugar.

Based on reports, treatment is planned. Needling to extrude material inside and TCA cautery (trichloroacetic acid chemical) is the best option, or you can try Tretinoin 0.025% local applications during the night for two weeks. Consult a specialist doctor and take the medication with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
