Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 29-year-old and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two years ago. My symptoms are mild, but I am trying to be proactive. I have been reading about experimental stem cell treatments abroad, and wonder if they are legitimate or safe. How do I know if I qualify for any approved stem cell trials, and could these therapies change the course of MS?
Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
I am truly sorry to hear about your struggles. The effect of stem cell therapy in multiple sclerosis aims to reset the immune system so that it is less likely to attack myelin. The duration of the effects of stem cell therapy for multiple sclerosis (MS) is still under investigation. Studies on the use of stem cell therapy for MS have reported varying results, and there is currently no consensus on how long the effects of the treatment last. Some studies have reported that the benefits of stem cell therapy for MS can last for several years, while others have found that the effects are more short-lived. The impact duration may depend on the type of stem cell therapy used, the stage of the disease, and the individual patient. While several factors contribute to an ideal candidate profile for stem cell therapy, the key ones include:
1. Good general health.
2. Feasibility of using your stem cells.
3. Nature and stage of your illness.
4. History of previous treatments.
5. Latest checkup and medical test results.
6. Recommendation for surgery by a doctor.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
