Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My face has been swollen for one week. My aunt said it was just mumps and that I should take medicine. I took Paracetamol, but I noticed at first that there were two lumps on the side of my jaw the next day. My jaw was swollen, and the two lumps were gone. There, I felt the pain in my neck, and the next day, half of my ear was swollen, while the other part of my jaw was reduced in swelling. The next day, the other half of my ear was swollen, along with my senses fading, and the swelling in the other half subsided a bit. The next day, my cheek was swollen, along with near the corner of my eye. I do not know what to do. What can I do? What are the medicines I can take to make it go away?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern.

Actually, such swelling occurs due to infection or allergies caused by some insect bite. So, most probably, it is happening due to infection only. Paracetamol helps in pain and all but does not reduce swelling. So, I would suggest you take tablet Avil 25 mg (Pheniramine) once before sleeping only today and Levocetirizine 10 mg once before sleeping for three days. Are you allergic to any antibiotics? Did you go somewhere out in the forest and get some insect bites? The probable cause is allergies. The probable diagnosis is swelling over the face. Differential diagnosis is infection. I suggest you do a CBC (complete blood count) with ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate).

Answer the above questions. So I can prescribe antibiotics accordingly.

Thank you.
