Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter has been having spells of vomiting in the mornings, throwing up once or twice, feeling nauseous, having a slight headache for about an hour or so, and then being fine the rest of the day. This has happened five days, the same way each time. She has had some issues with sick headaches from time to time. This has been going on for a few weeks. She is currently taking the tablet Doxycycline for acne. Also did a bloodwork checkup last week, and everything looked fine. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Giving medicine to control vomiting would not help your daughter, as vomiting is a symptom of a disease and not a disease itself. We have to find out the cause of vomiting. In this age group, acute gastritis and acute hepatitis are prevalent causes, which can be quickly ruled out with an ultrasound of abdomen. But in your case, I will keep the possibility of drug-induced vomiting as first because tablet Doxycycline is very commonly known to cause vomiting. Once you stop the drug, vomitings will stop. I would recommend discussing with your dermatologist to switch from tablet Doxycycline (Doryx) to another less emetic drug. If vomitings still do not stop with the drug withdrawal, we will need a few tests to determine the cause. If this situation arises, I will surely help you out. For now, I suggest stopping tablet Doxycycline.

Hope this helps. Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
