Why does a child get nauseous when exposed to odd smells?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My child is four years of age and he is nauseous. He vomits whenever he goes to the washroom in public places. Is there any type of odd smell that makes him vomit?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

It is important to rule out any underlying cause for vomiting, before labeling it as a behavioral problem.

I suggest a detailed examination and investigation of vomiting with your pediatrician. If no cause is apparent, then consultation with a psychologist and a developmental specialist will be helpful.

I also suggest not using antiemetic medications without knowing the cause of it, unless he is having dehydration or other physical problems.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks.
