Is it possible to get pregnant without penetrative sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I touched my girlfriend's vagina and pre-ejaculated on my hands after 3 to 4 days of her period. Does this cause pregnancy?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As per your description, these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance but it could be due to pregnancy also (though the chances are very very low). But as you missed your period it could be an anovulatory cycle (due to hormonal changes) or due to pregnancy (if precum contained sperm).

You should do a home urine pregnancy test after seven days of your missed period date or blood beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) testing to rule out pregnancy right now. If pregnancy is not there, it could be due to hormonal imbalance and you can wait and watch for your menses, or can take progesterone for withdrawal bleeding. Get your thyroid profile and hemoglobin test also for any hormonal changes.

Hope found this useful, feel free to ask for more information.

Thanks and take care.
