How to manage norovirus infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 38 years old, and since yesterday's team lunch, our entire floor has been down. Started in the marketing department and spread like wildfire. Now, 30 people are violently ill. The bathroom situation is a nightmare, and I have thrown up 15 times since morning. Three coworkers were already hospitalized for dehydration. The building manager suspects norovirus. We have a major client presentation tomorrow - what can we do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Norovirus outbreaks can be highly contagious and debilitating.

Immediate action to be taken include:

  1. Closure and disinfection: Immediate closure of the office building until thorough disinfection can be performed.

  2. Employee isolation: Isolate affected employees to prevent further transmission.

  3. Seek medical attention: Encourage employees to seek medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.

Norovirus prevention measures to be taken include:

  1. Enhanced cleaning: Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of the office, focusing on high-touch areas.

  2. Hand hygiene: Emphasize handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  3. Personal protective equipment: Use gloves, masks, and eye protection when cleaning.

Client presentation

  1. Postpone or virtualize: Consider postponing or virtualizing the client presentation to prevent further transmission.

  2. Communicate with clients: Inform clients about the situation and provide updates on the presentation.

Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
