What are the preventive measures for norovirus?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been hearing a lot about norovirus and the importance of using the right cleanser. Can you explain how norovirus spreads and what kind of cleanser or cleaning methods are effective in preventing its transmission? I want to make sure I am taking the right precautions to keep my environment safe and avoid infections.

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Norovirus, also known as vomiting disease, which means that the disease is spread through food or contaminated stool and vomit. So to prevent it I would suggest you wash your hands regularly after going to the washroom. Do not touch washroom handles unnecessarily because only then will you get this infection. Avoid using the toilet in public. Avoid outside food if possible. Do not share your food with people who are having symptoms of diarrhea and abdominal pain. In case you develop any symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, or vomiting, then you should consult your doctor for treatment and testing.

I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

Thank you.
