Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 45-year-old woman who has struggled with obesity for most of my adult life. Despite my efforts with various diets and exercise routines, I have had difficulty achieving significant weight loss. Lately, I have experienced worsening symptoms such as joint pain, fatigue, and shortness of breath, especially when climbing stairs. My recent blood tests have revealed elevated fasting glucose levels (118 mg/dL) and slightly high cholesterol (LDL: 160 mg/dL), which is particularly concerning given my family history of heart disease. My blood pressure has also been rising, averaging around 145/90 mmHg. I have been exploring options like weight loss medications or bariatric surgery, but I am concerned about the potential risks given my current health conditions.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I just read your query and understand your concern.
Obesity requires a comprehensive approach with careful supervision and problem-solving. Surgery should only be considered as a last option if medications and other treatments do not show results.
It is important to take medications as prescribed and adopt lifestyle changes. Start with low-intensity exercises like walking or stretching, gradually increasing intensity as you improve. Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily, and consider working with a trainer for guidance.
A heart-healthy diet with low fat, reduced carbohydrates, and high protein can help. Breathing exercises, meditation, and regular movement will support overall well-being. Aerobic activities and a low-sodium diet can also help manage blood pressure.
Take care.
I hope that you got your answer.
Regards.
