Can non-penetrative sex without ejaculation cause pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I occasionally perform oral sex on my partner, and he also rubs his penis against my pelvic area (without penetration). In both cases, there is no ejaculation. Could I still get pregnant from this?

I would greatly appreciate your advice.

Thank you for your time and support.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I understand your concerns and appreciate you reaching out for clarification.

From what you’ve shared, pregnancy is not expected in this situation. Oral sex cannot cause pregnancy. Also, genital rubbing without penetration or ejaculation inside the vagina has an extremely low to almost no risk.

Pregnancy can only happen if sperm enters the vagina and moves toward the uterus, which does not seem to have happened here. In rare cases, if fresh semen touches the vaginal opening, there is a small risk, but from your description, this is unlikely.

The pain you described above your navel that gets better after you pass stool is probably due to something like gas or mild constipation, not pregnancy.

Here are some steps you can take:

  • You do not need to worry about pregnancy from this situation.

  • If your period comes on time, that is another sign that you are not pregnant.

  • If your period is late, you can take a urine pregnancy test to be sure.

  • To avoid worry in the future, you might want to use reliable contraception.

  • If you have missed periods, unusual discharge, or ongoing abdominal pain, it is a good idea to see a doctor.

I hope this explanation helps.

If you have more questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you.
