What STI tests should be done after oral sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently experiencing symptoms such as mouth ulcers, mouth infections, and throat infections following recent oral sexual activity. I would like to seek advice regarding the severity of these symptoms and would like to know which healthcare professional I should consult in relation to this issue.

Additionally, I would appreciate guidance on the necessary tests or examinations that I should undergo, as well as the potential causes of these symptoms. It is worth noting that the individual involved has assured me that they have not been diagnosed with any sexually transmitted infections so far. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in finding a suitable solution.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

It appears that you may be experiencing a simple oral infection, such as tongue soreness, gum soreness (gingivitis), or sore throat (pharyngitis). Another possibility is that poor hygiene during oral sex could contribute to these symptoms. I recommend you consult an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist for further evaluation and treatment.

The ENT specialist will determine whether medication is sufficient to address these symptoms or if further testing is required. In the meantime, I advise you to do the following:

  1. Perform hot saline gargles before breakfast and dinner or use Benzydamine HCL (Tentum) gargle.

  2. Include citrus fruits like lemon, orange, kiwi, gooseberry, etc., in your diet in any form. It is better to consume them as whole fruits.

  3. Take a tablet of B Folcin (Niacin) after breakfast, lunch, and dinner for ten days.

  4. Take a tablet of Azithromycin 500 mg after lunch and dinner for six days.

  5. Apply Stomela gel (choline salicylate) locally three times a day.

  6. Take a tablet of Stercort (Deflazacort) 6 mg after lunch and dinner for three to six days.

I hope I have addressed your concerns. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Thank you.
