Can a blocked ear for over a month be serious?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I hope you are doing well. I am reaching out because I have been experiencing a blocked sensation in my right ear for over a month now. I recall that this began quite randomly one night while I was taking a shower. Since then, my ear has remained clogged, although it does occasionally clear up for a few seconds before returning to the same blocked state.
This has happened to me in the past, but it was typically resolved within a few days. However, this time, it has remained persistent and will not unclog. Recently, I have also started to feel some discomfort and pain on the right side of my throat, along with what seems to be internal ear pain.
I am beginning to feel a little concerned and was wondering if you could kindly suggest any home remedies or steps I could take to relieve this issue.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
I am very sorry to hear about your medical condition, and I am glad that you are paying close attention to the changes in your body. Please do not worry; I am here to support and take care of you.
Based on your symptoms, I believe you may have developed otitis media, which is an infection of the middle ear. This can occur due to the spread of surface bacteria from shower water and may have extended to the throat, leading to an inflammatory condition.
I recommend that you undergo an ear swab test and share the results with me once available. In the meantime, please take the following medications:
Co-Amoxiclav 625 mg (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid): Two tablets by mouth, twice daily, for one week.
Metronidazole 400 mg: Two tablets by mouth, three times daily, for one week.
If you have any additional concerns or questions, please feel free to schedule a direct appointment or follow up via chat, phone, or video consultation.
I hope this information helps you.
Please let us know if you have any further queries.
Thank you.
