Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I would like some guidance regarding the pain I am experiencing. I am currently ovulating and notice significant soreness in my lower abdominal area. I also feel irritable and fatigued, and certain movements cause sharp discomfort.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern about pelvic pain during ovulation, especially as it worsens with specific movements and is accompanied by irritation and weariness. The most probable reason is ovulation discomfort (Mittelschmerz). This happens when an ovary releases an egg, which might cause temporary irritation in the surrounding tissues. Hormonal changes at this time can also lead to fatigue and emotional sensitivity.
Typical symptoms of ovulation discomfort include:
Occurs in the middle of the cycle.
Feeling in the lower abdomen or pelvic region, sometimes on one side.
May feel acute, crampy, or aching.
May last from a few hours to one to two days.
May worsen with movement or pressure.
Self-care strategies for mild to moderate pain:
Rest and prevent sudden bending or twisting.
Apply a warm compress to your lower abdomen.
Use anti-inflammatory pain medicines such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen if you regularly tolerate them and there are no medical reasons to avoid them.
This soreness normally subsides within 24 to 48 hours.
However, severe or unexpected discomfort does not qualify as normal ovulation pain. Seek urgent medical care if you have:
Severe or intensifying pain.
Sharp, severe pain on one side.
Fever, nausea, and vomiting
Dizziness or fainting.
Unusual vaginal bleeding.
Possibility of pregnancy.
These may indicate ovarian cyst problems, ovarian torsion, appendicitis, or ectopic pregnancy. If your pain is severe, chronic, or different from what you normally experience, it is best to be seen in person.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
