Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had my last period last month. After that, I got two days of brown discharge on the first of this month. Then, I got the same brown discharge with clots in the middle of this month, but I have not had my period since then.
Now, last night I got my period (blood flow started), but the blood flow is very little, which is not common for me because I have little painful and heavy blood flow periods for at least three days. What is the problem? I am very stressed about this.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
What you are describing is as follows:
Brown discharge: First of this month (spotting).
Brown discharge with clots: Middle of this month.
Light period: The middle of this month, with an unusually mild flow.
Normally, you have heavier, painful periods for three days.
You are not sexually active and have no past issues.
Possible reasons for these changes can be;
Stress and hormonal imbalance: Mental or physical stress can affect the hypothalamus–pituitary–ovarian axis, which regulates your cycle. This could lead to:
Irregular shedding of the uterine lining.
Brown discharge (old blood).
Lighter or delayed periods.
Anovulatory cycle (No ovulation):
Sometimes your body skips ovulation for a cycle. In such cases:
You may get irregular or light bleeding.
Periods may come with clots or just spotting.
Hormonal fluctuations (possibly thyroid or PCOS): Even without previous issues, hormonal shifts can suddenly cause:
Irregular flow.
Brown spotting instead of regular red bleeding.
Shorter or longer cycles.
Endometrial shedding issues: Sometimes the lining of the uterus sheds in patches, causing:
Brown spotting or clots over days.
Lighter-than-normal periods afterward.
Should you be worried?
You don’t need to be worried. One isolated irregular period (even with brown discharge and clots) is very common, especially when:
But if it happens again next month or continues, it is worth checking hormonal levels (FSH, LH, TSH, prolactin). Maybe even a pelvic ultrasound to rule out ovarian cysts or uterine lining issues. I suggest that you,
I hope this information helps you.
Feel free to ask further queries.
Thank you.
