Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 37-year-old woman, and I have been having heart palpitations or flutters consistently for a week. I went to my GP and had a quick EKG, revealing that I am having premature ventricular contractions. I was told not to worry and that they would go away, but a few days have passed, and they are not subsiding. I did a Holter monitor but have to wait two weeks for results prior to being able to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist. My family is concerned that the frequency is alarming, and I should not wait that long to do further testing to make sure there are no underlying conditions that may be triggering this. With the frequency of these contractions, I should require prompt attention and look into it more with a cardiologist. Or is this completely normal? Should I continue waiting for it? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern. I would like to directly review your resting ECG (electrocardiogram) for a more professional opinion. I would also like to review your Holter report as soon as you are able to upload it. In the meantime, I would recommend performing a few tests to investigate the possible underlying causes. Some of them are cardiac ultrasound, thyroid function test to check for thyroid dysfunction, complete blood count for anemia, and blood electrolytes for possible imbalances. Hope this helps. Thanks and take care.
