Should one worry about the frequent PVCs and anxiety?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having a lot of premature ventricular contractions (PVC) and anxiety. They started 18 years ago and have been occurring on and off for years. However, they have been more frequent in the last six weeks. My doctor says they are nothing to be worried about, but they do not feel harmless to me. I guess I am just looking for reassurance that they are not harmful. I have gotten a Holter monitor test, an EKG, and an echo. Currently, I am taking Ativan and Buspar. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details you provided. Premature ventricular contractions, or PVCs, are often harmless. We need to see for any structural heart disease and LV (left ventricular) function on echocardiography. We have to see how frequent they are by doing a 24-hour Holter monitor test. We have to check for any systemic illnesses causing it, such as thyroid, kidney disease, or electrolyte imbalance. By doing tests, we rule out harmful causes and then label them as harmless. In your case, if the Holter test and echocardiography reports are normal, we can label it harmless.

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
