Can a pap smear confirm the cause of blood in the cervix?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I need some clarification on my pap-smear test results. I underwent surgery last year, where blood was found in my cervix. I have attached my laboratory result for it. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have not given a detailed surgical, gynecology, medical, and drug history, but I will try to help as you described. I have seen your report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). This report did not mention in detail about anything. But the report says they could not find any malignancy or cancerous tissues. The sample they received was difficult to read as much inflammation or infection was observed. I do not know, but I am trying to guess whether this sample is your cervical biopsy sample or some tissue sent for histopathology examination to rule out cervical malignancy. Here, they mentioned that they could not find any malignancy, but they find difficult to give a detailed report as they saw lots of inflammation. It is better to have a full body check-up and a detailed examination of any problem you have been experiencing. Try to use protection before having intercourse to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted diseases or pelvic inflammatory disease. Having a healthy balanced high protein nutritious diet will help rebuild tissues and heal in previously done surgery. Walk daily for a normal BMI (body mass index) and indulge in recreational activities. So it is better to visit with this report to a colposcopy clinic or your treating surgeon who sent the sample to the lab so they can conclude further management of previously treated or investigated the problem. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Treatment plan

Colposcopy clinic appointment or previously treated gynecologist appointment who sent histopathology sample.
