Can Parkinson’s cause tremors and stiffness in movements?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been feeling a bit off lately, noticing some tremors and stiffness in my movements. It has got me thinking about stuff like Parkinson's and other brain-related conditions. I am not sure what to make of it all, to be honest. Could you give me the lowdown on these brain issues, like what to watch out for and what I should do if I think something is up? How do folks deal with it if they end up with one of these conditions?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your problem and concern.

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing these symptoms. It is good to be proactive about your health. Parkinson's disease and other brain-related conditions can present with symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with movements. Other signs may include changes in speech, balance issues, and cognitive changes.

If you are diagnosed with a brain-related condition like Parkinson's, treatment options may include medications, physical therapy, and lifestyle changes. Support groups and counseling can also be beneficial for managing the emotional aspects of the condition. Early detection and management are key. So, do not hesitate to consult your nearest doctor. Your doctor will take a detailed history and physical and neurological examination and will advise some investigation to reach a diagnosis.

I hope that you got my point.

I also suggest you do the following investigations:

  • CBC (complete blood count).

  • RBS (random blood sugar).

  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the brain.

  • Vitamin D3 and vitamin B12.

  • BP (blood pressure) monitoring.

I hope this helps you.

Revert in case of queries.

Regards.
