Hello doctor,

My daughter is 20 years old, and she is very slim, with no acne or facial hair. She was on the combined pill, but it made her very unwell. After trying two different types for a year each, with a break in between, she gave up.

However, her periods have not returned (it has been eight months now), and she has developed other symptoms such as nausea, tiredness, and lactation from both breasts. She had her blood tests done, which revealed low estrogen and vitamin D levels.

A scan showed PCOS/PMOS in both ovaries. She has been prescribed a progesterone-only mini pill and is also changing her diet.

Can she add supplements like vitamin B complex, magnesium, Myo-inositol, folate, chromium, and maca for support?

I understand your concern.

Please send me all the reports, just as you sent me the receipts for the reports. You can give her the aforementioned supplements along with her pills. I suggest that she practices yoga and pranayama regularly, goes for walks regularly, consumes flaxseeds regularly, and includes dates, beetroot, jaggery, and green leafy vegetables in her diet regularly.

Do not worry. Estrogen levels are normal. The ultrasound report suggests PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)/PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) only. The discharge from the nipple seems to be due to raised prolactin levels caused by a hormonal imbalance associated with PCOS/PMOS. It is not advisable to rely solely on hormone pills. Instead, I suggest you do the following:

  1. Wake up early and go for a morning walk regularly until you sweat.

  2. Practice yoga and pranayama regularly.

  3. Include flaxseeds in your diet regularly.

  4. Take two capsules of Evecare (Ashoka tree, asparagus, lodh tree, and Malabar nut) twice a day for three to six months and Tab Revital (ginseng extract, vitamin A, vitamin B1, B2, B6, and B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin D, and nicotinamide) once daily for six weeks.

If you have already been taking progesterone pills for more than 10 days this month, you can stop taking them. Your periods will occur within a few days of stopping the progesterone pills. Please send me a follow-up after three weeks.
