What can a woman with PCOS/PMOS do to improve vaginal dryness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 30-year-old female. I have a history of PCOS/PMOS and hypothyroidism from last year. I also have a history of a swollen pituitary gland, but it is normal now. I am only taking a 100 mcg pill for thyroid. My problem is that whenever I indulge in sex with my boyfriend, we can have intercourse very rarely, as I am unable to produce sufficient lubrication in my vagina for intercourse.

I get excited when we spend a lot of time on foreplay, and I am not scared of intercourse. I love to have intercourse with him, but mostly I do not feel sufficiently wet to have intercourse, and I feel pain while having intercourse. What should I do?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Although there are multiple reasons for vaginal dryness, the most common among them is a deficiency of estrogen, a female hormone.

This is possible in your case due to the presence of polycystic ovary syndrome/polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PCOS/PMOS), which alters the hormonal profile. I will recommend two things that may help you.

  • Firstly, use the topical Estrogen. It is available in the form of gel, ring, or cream. At your convenience, you can use either cream or gel, and the ring requires the assistance of a doctor.
  • The second thing is stress management. Stress is one of the common reasons for decreased vaginal lubrication.

Although there is a long list of dos and don'ts, principally speaking, a healthy diet, regular exercise, avoidance of substance abuse, and plenty of fluid intake help most individuals.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
