Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 34-year-old female with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) and insulin resistance. My doctor recently prescribed compounded Semaglutide from a compounding pharmacy because the brand-name version is hard to find right now.
I have been on it for a few weeks and have noticed reduced appetite and some weight loss, but I am also feeling more fatigued and nauseous. I am worried about the safety of using a compounded medication since I have read there are not as many regulations around it. Please tell me,
Please help.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Compounded Semaglutide can be effective, but it is important to ensure that the compounding pharmacy is reputable and follows strict quality control standards. You can check if the pharmacy is accredited by organizations like the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB). The side effects you are experiencing, such as fatigue and nausea, are common with Semaglutide, whether it is compounded or brand-name. However, if the side effects are severe or persistent, it is a good idea to discuss them with your doctor. They can help determine if the compounded version is the cause or if adjustments to your treatment are needed. Please book a consultation with me if you would like more detailed information on any of these points or if you have other questions.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
