I am suffering from PCOS/PMOS and want to reduce weight. Do I require medications for the weight loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from PCOS/PMOS, my weight is 63 kg, and I want to lose weight. Please help me with a diet chart.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Let me first tell you that this is not a disease. It is just an abnormality in hormonal status, which needs a careful and patient reduction. It will be difficult to maintain if you suddenly fall in weight. Have a target for weight reduction.

Weight (in kgs) = Height (in cms) - 100. For example - If height 160 cms, 160-100 = 60 to 65 kg is expected weight.

Once you reduce weight to the normal range, you will not need any medicine to get periods or to get pregnant, and pregnancy will be healthy.

To reduce weight -

  1. Avoid fasting, junk food, fast food, or red meat (pork or beef), and reduce snacks in between meals, have food of your choice but reduce oil and extra sugar. Have high-fiber food, oats, fruits, and vegetables (raw or cooked). Try to fill your stomach with this.
  2. Have low calory food and high proteins. Always have food three times a day on time. Reduce rice have roti. Stop sweets.
  3. Do regular exercise, aerobics, yoga, and brisk walking.
  4. Try to reduce two to four kilograms per month. Do not hurry on weight reduction. It will be challenging to maintain.
  5. You will see changes as soon as you reduce at least 5 kgs.
  6. Do not try medications for weight loss. They will take away your health too.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
