Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I was diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS a few years back and have been taking Ginette 35 for my condition. I finished my last Ginette 35 course a few weeks back. However, I had unprotected sex after that, and I took the I-pill as emergency contraception.
I am concerned about whether the I-pill will be effective or if it might cause an overdose of hormones, especially since I recently stopped taking Ginette 35.
What are the potential side effects, and how can I manage them?
Is it safe to take the I-pill after completing my Ginette 35 course?
Please guide.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
I understand you are feeling a bit anxious after taking the emergency contraceptive pill (shortly after completing your course of Ginette 35 (Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol).
To clarify, while both are hormonal medications, taking I-pill (Levonorgestrel) after finishing Ginette 35 a few days prior is not typically harmful, but it may lead to temporary hormonal imbalance symptoms. It is important to stay calm, as a single dose of I-pill is commonly tolerated well, even after recent use of hormonal contraceptives.
No further hormonal pills are needed right now. Wait for your next period. It may come early, late, or with spotting. If you plan to continue contraception, resume Ginette 35 or switch to another reliable method once your cycle starts, after discussing with a gynecologist.
Stay hydrated, maintain a regular routine, and do not take repeated emergency pills quickly; they are not meant for routine use.
If your next period is delayed by more than seven to ten days, please do a pregnancy test. Also, let me know if you experience unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, or prolonged irregular cycles.
I hope this answers your query.
Feel free to reach out anytime.
Thank you.
