What is the effective treatment to stop persisting periods due to PCOS/PMOS?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 39 years old, and my period started two months ago, but it still has not stopped. I have a PCOS/PMOS (polycystic ovary syndrome/polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) problem, and my weight has increased to 242 pounds after my second son's c-section. I am currently taking Ayurvedic medication.

Please suggest medication to stop my periods and regulate them.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern.

You need to have several tests done, including blood tests such as complete blood count (CBC), thyroid function tests, serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), serum luteinizing hormone (LH), serum testosterone, serum prolactin, fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C), and an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis.

How was polycystic ovary syndrome/polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PCOS/PMOS) diagnosed, and when was it diagnosed? If an ultrasound has been performed, please share the report here.

I suggest taking Etosys MF (a combination of Mefenamic acid and Tranexamic acid) tablets three times a day for three to five days to stop the bleeding. Also, start taking Primolut N (Norethisterone) 5 mg, two tablets twice a day for seven days.

If the bleeding stops after seven days, switch to one tablet of Primolut N twice a day for two more weeks, and then stop taking it. After stopping, you should get your normal periods. Please complete the above tests and consult me through this website.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Thank you.
