Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My lips suddenly started to peel off about two years ago. I went to a dermatologist, and he gave me Boroline. I have been using it for the last two years. Once in two days, white skin forms on my lips, and it peels off late. It is like a two-day cycle. After searching about my condition on the internet, I think I have exfoliative cheilitis. What can I do about it? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Kindly answer me the following to help you better. Do you have a dry, scaly lip? Is there any inflammation or swelling? Did you expose yourself to dry winds? Do you have any history of atopy or allergies? And also, kindly attach the clinical picture of the lesion to assess and guide you accordingly. Take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. My dry skin peeled off yesterday. So, it looks clean and clear now. There is no swelling. But after peeling there is redness. I also have anxiety issues and this condition has elevated that. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is perioral dermatitis (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). It may be due to cosmetics like lip balm, irritation secondary to mouthwash, contact allergens due to new toothpaste, food allergens like citrus fruits, pineapple, garlic, medications like Retenoids, and dehydration. Chapped lips and chelitis can be due to vitamin B deficiency, low levels of iron and zinc, eating spicy foods, environmental exposure, dry weather, and allergy to saliva. I suggest you to apply 1 % Hydrocortisone cream for one week and use Photostable sunscreen (Purified water, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Cetearyl alcohol, Diacetyl phosphate, Dicaprylyl carbonate, Myristyl myristate, Octyldodecanol, Caprylicl triglyceride, Pentaerythrityl distearate, Phenyl trimethicone, vitamin E, Carbomer copolymer) thrice daily for two months. And kindly use hydrating lip balm, moisturize the lips, maintain proper lip hygiene, drink lots of water, exfoliate dead skin of lips with warm water. Regards.
