Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 21-year-old male with symptoms of pneumonia such as cough with mucus in my chest, headache, loss of appetite, green mucus, fatigue, chills and, blood in nasal mucus. Please guide me.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for the query. I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from a cough with mucus green in color, headache, loss of appetite, fatigue, chills, blood in nasal mucus, etc. You are a known case of pneumonia. You have not mentioned the presence or absence of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) infection as it is a pandemic right now. Pneumonia may be of bacterial, viral, or fungal origin, complications or consequences of pre-existing illness, condition, and many more reasons.
Pneumonia due to bacterial infection may need antibiotics to cover both typical and atypical bacterial causes. For that, you can take Cefixime with Clarithromycin or Azithromycin, for both typical and atypical bacterial coverage for ten to fourteen days, along with antihistamines for mucus suppression, and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) for reducing headache, body ache, or fever, with or without corticosteroids or steroids.
For viral cause, you need antiviral and antifungal for fungal induced pneumonia. You should monitor your oxygen saturation level routinely by pulse oximeter at home setting, take vitamin C-rich foods and citrus fruits, take plenty of fluids, etc. Take care. Let me know if I can assist you further.
