Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a pollen allergy since I was a kid, and now I am 18 years old. When I was a child, it occurred only in pollen season. But as time passed, it remained all year. It never goes away. It is preset all over the year. I have gone to many doctors. I have taken many treatments, but my allergy never goes away. I remain suffocated and have shortness of breath. When I was a kid, I used a nebulizer with Ventolin. It helped me for some time, but now it would not allow me. Please give me some advice on what to do.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You seem to be having an allergy. But how sure are you that it is only pollen allergy? Pollen allergy is primarily seasonal, whereas house dust mites and fungi cause perennial allergies like in your case. To diagnose allergy, you must undergo a skin prick testing for the common allergens at your residence. Skin prick testing will clearly show which allergen is offending you. Blood allergy and immunoCAP tests are available but less efficient than skin prick testing. Once we know the allergen details, we can help you with the right advice on avoiding the allergens. Next, if you cannot get adequate relief even after sufficient care and avoidance, we can try immunotherapy. Here, we give vaccines against allergens, giving you lifelong immunity. Temporarily, you must continue Montelukast-anti-histaminic and inhalers as advised for allergy relief. For more details on any of these, do revert. Allergy is a manageable problem. The suffering due to allergy can be brought to a minimum to give a good quality of life.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
