What causes ejaculation issues in a 42-year-old?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 42 years old and have always been very satisfied with my sex life. Lately, I have been unable to ejaculate, even though I can maintain an erection. My partner is worried she might be the reason, but that is not the case. What should I do?

Please help me.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Not being able to ejaculate (called delayed ejaculation) even with a firm erection can happen in any relationship. It is not her fault; it is often due to:

  1. Mental pressure (wanting to perform well, feeling self-conscious).

  2. Emotional issues.

  3. Change in sexual rhythm or stimulation style.

What you can do:

  1. Take the pressure off the climax and focus on comfort and exploration.

  2. Try solo stimulation to see if ejaculation still happens.

  3. Talk openly with your partner and reassure her that it is not her fault.

  4. If it continues for months, consider checking hormone levels or seeing a doctor.

There is no need to panic; this is common and often resolves as you both get more comfortable.

Thank you.
