Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I understand this is a worrying situation, and it is wise to seek clarification.

Tenofovir, Emtricitabine, and Efavirenz (Viraday) do not reduce fertility in either males or females. PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is taken for a duration of 30 days, and there are no long-term effects on sperm quality or hormone levels.

These medications have been used worldwide for many years, and there is no evidence that a short 28-day PEP course affects sperm count or motility in the long term.

PEP is designed solely to prevent viral replication following potential exposure and does not interfere with the reproductive organs or the hormonal pathways involved in conception.

After completing the 30-day PEP course, the medications will gradually leave your system without causing lasting changes. Most individuals who have taken PEP in the past have successfully conceived without any issues.

Once the PEP course is finished, it is advisable to wait a short period before trying to conceive. This recommendation is primarily for safety reasons and not due to any impact on fertility.

If you complete the full 28-day course and wait 2-4 weeks afterward, your body will be free of the medication’s active effects, making it safe to plan for pregnancy.

It is also recommended to follow an HIV testing schedule at 6 weeks and 12 weeks after exposure for full reassurance. If both partners are healthy and there are no other fertility issues, PEP will not prevent or delay your ability to conceive.

I hope this explanation clarifies the situation.
