Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 18-year-old male. I have dark scars around a healed wound under my left eye. What could be the reason?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per the history and image provided (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), it looks like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). It appears following a wound that causes inflammation and later heals to form dark spots. It usually fades with time eventually. However, to fasten the fading, you may use the following:

Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

1. Apply Hydrocortisone 1 % cream only at night on the affected spot once daily for ten days. Take a minimal amount of the cream and apply a very thin layer on the dark spots only. Use a small quantity since the medication is strong. Stop using the cream after ten days

2. Use Kojivit ultra cream (Allantoin, Arbutin, Glycolic Acid, Kojic Acid, Licorice, Mulberry extract, Niacin, Octinoxate, Tetrahydrocurcumin, and Tocopherol) after ten days of using Hydrocortisone to help with the leftover spots. Use the cream once daily at night in a thin layer for a month or till the dark spot fades off.

3. Take chewable Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) tablets 500 mg, once daily, after dinner for one month.

4. Take Vitamin E 400 mg capsule once daily after breakfast for one month.

The two oral medications help lighten the spot, and you may or may not consume them. The creams, however, may be used according to the instructions provided above.

Hope this helps,

Thank you.
