Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am coughing yellow colored mucus or sputum for almost a week now with post-nasal drip. Does this mean I have a bacterial infection and I need antibiotic? Please look at the attached image.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your complaints. You have been having yellow colored sputum which means that you have an infection for sure but then does not mean that it has to be a viral or bacterial infection. If you have a fever and you have a productive cough like this then you will have to have an antibiotic for now. Then, when you do not have fever and just only this cough and sputum I would advise you to take medicine called Fexopen 120 milligram at night for five days and then you try steam inhalation for about five days everyday once. At this point in time, do not advise any antibiotic. I would also want you to get a basic blood investigations CBC and a chest X-ray as well to look for what kind of infection. If you have been smoking I would advise you to strongly quit smoking at present and also forever. I do not think that you will require an antibiotic if you do not have any fever. But if you do have a fever please let me know.
