Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have severe bleeding issues while having my periods. Since I am lean and just 20 years old, I thought it could be due to over-activity. Do hemophilia-like conditions cause severe bleeding? I also bruise my tongue easily after eating candies. I want to be treated as soon as possible. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you may have a carrier state of hemophilia or some other thing. Females can be carriers. It would help if you get yourself tested. Get a CBC (complete blood count) done and also test for PT (prothrombin time), aPPT (activated partial thromboplastin time), and fibrinogen. If the results are abnormal, then we will go for factor assays. If your cousin has hemophilia or any bleeding disorder you can get the same tests done. In this way, you can get to know the actual problem. Sometimes bleeding in menses is not due to hemophilia and it is a normal phenomenon. You must take iron supplements and folic acid for blood production. Iron deficiency also causes heavy bleeding and you can take some medicine to lower the bleeding after consulting your physician. Schedule a check-up with your physician and also check if anything is abnormal in the uterus and send the blood reports for further discussion.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
