Can missing a second dose of contraceptive injection lead to pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old, and recently I missed the second dose of my contraceptive injection. Ever since then, I have been having sore breasts, vaginal itching, backache, and nausea. Could I be pregnant?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The symptoms you mentioned in your query, can happen after a deposit shot, as it contains a high amount of hormones. The chances of you getting pregnant by fingering are remote. Even then, it is advisable to rule out pregnancy as you missed your shot subsequently. Do a urine pregnancy test with an early morning sample of urine to rule out pregnancy.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
