I am having period pain after a tablet. Is my pregnancy safe?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My last period date was 1.5 months ago. Two days ago, I checked my pregnancy test, and it was positive. Before the test, I took one Breeky tablet with water. After that, I feel period pain but no bleeding or spotting.

Is my pregnancy safe or not?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

Based on your last period, you seem to be around five weeks pregnant, and the positive test confirms that conception has occurred. The period-like cramps you are feeling are very common in early pregnancy due to hormonal changes and the uterus starting to expand (early pregnancy changes).

You mentioned taking a Misoprostol tablet before knowing you were pregnant. If this were an emergency contraceptive pill or another common over-the-counter medicine, a single dose usually does not harm the developing baby. Still, knowing the exact name of the medicine will help give complete reassurance.

For now, the next important steps are:

• A beta-hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) blood test to confirm healthy progression.

• An early ultrasound to check that the pregnancy is developing inside the uterus.

Until then, avoid taking any medication unless prescribed. Rest well, stay hydrated, and monitor your symptoms. Mild cramps are normal, but if you develop vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, dizziness, or worsening cramps, please seek medical care immediately.

Overall, nothing here suggests immediate danger. An early check-up will help ensure everything is progressing normally.

Thank you.
