What causes round-shaped breast capillaries in pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am pregnant and have some visible, round-shaped breast capillaries. It started a few months ago during early pregnancy, no lump or changes besides it. It makes me very worried, although I had a breast ultrasound six months ago and repeated it three weeks ago. I also have benign cysts that have always been there and were the only consistent finding. Somehow, I am still worried and checking myself constantly.

Kindly guide.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Pregnancy brings so many changes, and noticing new things like those visible capillaries can feel really unsettling. What you are describing (small, round, visible blood vessels) is actually a very common occurrence during pregnancy. It is called increased vascularity, caused by all that extra blood flow and hormonal support going to your breasts as they prepare for feeding your baby.

The fact that you have had two reassuring ultrasounds recently (including one just three weeks ago), showing only your known benign cysts and nothing new or concerning, is excellent news. It strongly confirms that these capillaries are just a normal part of your body adapting. Try to trust those results. Constant checking can actually increase anxiety. You have done everything right by getting checked. Take a deep breath, your body is doing its amazing work.

Thank you.
