Should one worry about cramping and headache in the 17 week?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently 17 weeks and three days pregnant, and I am wondering if the symptoms I am experiencing are just due to my uterus stretching or if they could indicate something more concerning. In my first trimester, I had severe cramping and bleeding, but was told it was due to me having a synchronic hemorrhage. I have been having persistent cramping that has lasted overnight, along with a constant headache. I had this issue that has been ongoing for at least four years. I have also experienced dizziness, temporary loss of vision and hearing, and a change in vaginal discharge, which has become watery and sometimes has a mucus-like texture. In addition to this, I am having difficulty breathing.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to iCliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Regarding your symptoms, I believe you may have developed a systemic infection during pregnancy, and I suspect that it could be malaria or typhoid fever, which may be contributing to premature uterine contractions. I strongly recommend that you undergo a Widal test and a malaria test, and kindly share the results with me once they are available. In the meantime, I suggest the following treatment plan to help manage your symptoms after consulting your treating physician:

  1. Two capsules of Amoxicillin 500 milligrams, orally three times daily for one week.
  2. Two tablets of Artemether 50 milligrams, orally twice daily for three days.
  3. One tablet of Ventolin, four milligrams, orally three times daily for one week.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.

For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
