Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 27 years old and I am recently married. My period starts more than 30 days ago it still continues. We are trying for a baby and my weight is 187 lbs. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
First step in such situations to get a simple home urine pregnancy test. If negative, then I suggest you wait for three months before planning a pregnancy. Get your blood tested for TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) and OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) and get an ultrasound pelvis. Lose some weight and then try for pregnancy.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
How can I stop this period flow it has been 32 days from the start of period?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Please take tablet Tranexa (Tranexamic acid) 500 mg thrice a day for three days to control the bleeding. Also, take iron and folic acid supplements. It will restore the iron you have lost and folic acid supplements are to be taken pre-pregnancy and for the first three months of pregnancy for preventing defects in the baby. Weight loss of just 6 to 8 lbs will work wonders for you too. Pre-pregnancy weight if ideal is good because obesity makes it a high-risk pregnancy.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Can you please provide names and prescription for iron and folic acid tablet?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Brand names vary based on the country you live in. Iron and folic acid supplements are over the counter drugs and you can ask your chemist/ qualified pharmacist to guide you with the best brand available in your area.
