How can I stop prone masturbation and manage its effects?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been doing prone masturbation from past five days. Due to this habit, I am unable to focus and concentrate on my studies. I blocked all social media websites on my laptop, but I can maintain control for two to three days. I feel strong urges that are out of control, which cause two to three instances of masturbation in a day. Kindly help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I am deeply concerned about your worries. You are not broken. And you are definitely not alone in this. Compulsive masturbation behavior (behavioral habit pattern), specifically prone masturbation dependency, is not a disease. It is a learned behavioral cycle reinforced over time.

When you do prone masturbation (lying face down with pressure), your brain releases dopamine. After five years, your brain has learned stress, urge, act, and relief. When you try to stop, your brain reacts with restlessness, strong sexual thoughts, irritability, and loss of focus.

Intense urges after two to three days are a dopamine withdrawal pattern. Prone masturbation itself is not dangerous, but excessive frequency combined with loss of control suggests compulsive behavior.

Now, let’s fix this practically. Why willpower alone is failing: You removed your phone and social media. That treats triggers. But the real driver is internal tension, stress, boredom, or anxiety. Your brain is using masturbation as stress relief.

Here’s what actually works:

  1. Stop trying to quit forever. Instead, aim for reduction.
  2. Replace the dopamine source. When the urge hits, do one of these immediately.
  3. Cold shower, fast walking for 10 minutes. Deep breathing 4-4-4-4 method.
  4. Study in a public place or a library. Urges peak for about 15 to 20 minutes, then reduces. They are waves, not permanent.
  5. Avoid lying on your stomach in bed during the day. Change your study posture completely. The bed is a trigger.
  6. Sleep properly. Sleep deprivation increases urges.
  7. Set a structured day plan.

An idle brain increases compulsive behavior.

Masturbation does not permanently damage focus or intelligence. But repeated cycles can reduce mental clarity because of stress. If you ever notice erectile difficulty with normal intercourse, loss of sensation, or inability to climax normally, then evaluation may be needed. Right now, this looks behavioral, not medical.

Do you feel anxiety or stress before the urge usually comes? Be honest. That answer will help fix the root, not just the habit.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Thanks.
