Can symptoms from recurrent prostate infection cause cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-year-old male experiencing recurrent prostate infections with inflammation and kidney stones. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 210 lbs. I have been taking Trileptal, Ranitidine, and Omeprazole for about ten years. My symptoms include lower back pain, painful urination, painful ejaculation, pain during bowel movements, and feeling extremely drained with constant cold and hot sweats. I have been struggling with these symptoms for the past three months and am waiting for an appointment with a urologist.

  1. Can this condition lead to cancer or fertility problems?
  2. What can be done to address these symptoms in the meantime?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

What you are describing sounds like prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland, often causing pain, urinary issues, and sexual discomfort), which is an inflammation of the prostate. To better understand your condition and address your concerns, I would appreciate a few more details:

  1. Are you diabetic or hypertensive?
  2. Do you experience any pain in the area between your testicles and anus?
  3. Does it hurt after you ejaculate?
  4. Do you have any difficulty passing urine, such as straining, urgency, burning sensation, or a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying?
  5. Have you had any surgeries in the past?
  6. Are you sexually active, or do you masturbate regularly? If so, how often per week?
  7. Have you undergone any tests, such as blood work, urine tests, or ultrasounds? If possible, please upload your reports.

Regarding your concerns about infertility and cancer, these symptoms are not typically linked to an increased risk of either. It is unlikely that prostatitis will affect your fertility or lead to cancer.
