How to help someone feel motivated to work?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My brother does not feel like going to work. He is 38 years old now and quit his job four years ago. He spends most of his time playing games on his laptop and never listens to us. We are very worried about him. He is good at cooking and talks very smartly, but when we talk about his career, he gets upset. We do not know what is going on in his mind. Please help us to talk to him in the right way.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It has been a long period of not doing work. Your parents or elder one must talk about it. You all have to be strict about his behavior. He may be addicted to games, so take him to the nearest psychiatrist for it. Do not allow any excuse for not doing any work if he does not have any psychiatric illness. Stop his groceries and food. Stop giving pocket money. You must tell him to find a job, even if it is for two to three hours initially, and then increase working hours. He may even go as a volunteer, but he needs to go out of home at any cost.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
