Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been having a terrible feeling on and off for the past two years. I often feel that groups of people are acting, and I also feel like someone is trying to kill me. What steps should I take to manage this?
Kindly advise.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The symptoms you describe, feeling that groups of people are acting or conspiring against you, and sensing that someone may be trying to harm or kill you, have been occurring intermittently for the past two years. These experiences suggest the presence of persistent paranoid or persecutory thoughts, which can be distressing and may significantly affect emotional well-being and daily functioning.
Such feelings may occur in the context of several mental health conditions, including psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia or delusional disorder), severe anxiety, or major depressive disorder with psychotic features. They may also arise temporarily due to stress, trauma, or sleep deprivation.
Since the symptoms have persisted for a long duration and there is no current treatment, it is strongly recommended to consult a psychiatrist or a qualified mental health professional for a comprehensive evaluation. Early assessment can help identify the underlying cause and guide appropriate management, which may include medication, psychotherapy, and supportive counseling.
If medication is required, treatment may involve antipsychotic drugs (such as Risperidone, Olanzapine, or Quetiapine), prescribed and closely monitored by a psychiatrist to ensure safety and effectiveness.
If at any point there is a feeling of being unsafe or a belief that self-harm or harm to others might occur, it is important to seek immediate medical help or visit the nearest emergency department for safety and stabilization.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
