Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have developed red, inflamed, slightly raised lesions on the tip of the penis. The area feels slightly moist and irritated. This started after I took Methylprednisolone tablets (which I took for 20 days instead of 10 as advised). Now I am using Bilastine 40 milligrams (morning and night) as prescribed by the dermatologist for the allergic red rashes.
Could this genital issue be a side effect of the steroid tablets (Methylprednisolone)? Or do I need a different medication for it, or should I continue only with Bilastine?
Please suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
It is balanitis. (The cause could be infectious, allergic, due to certain medications, or improper hygiene).
Wash the area with cleanser (Salicylic acid) or no-soap cleanser daily for one month.
I would like to know the answers to the following questions:
History of high-risk exposure?
Are you diabetic?
Do you excessively scratch and rub?
Is there pain, burning, irritation, or itching?
Any contact with an irritant chemical?
Do reply for a complete treatment plan.
I hope this has helped you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your response.
I am not diabetic. I took Methylprednisolone tablets (which I took for 20 days instead of 10 as advised).
I had an allergic reaction as I rubbed.
Yes, itching and a little bit of pain, and white fluid is present.
I did not have contact with harsh irritant chemicals.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Inflammation of the glans is called balanitis.
Causes could be improper genital hygiene, scratching and rubbing, allergic reaction to irritant soap, or infectious (fungal, bacterial, or sexually transmitted infection).
Other causes are eczema, uncontrolled diabetes, injuries, or exposure to chemicals.
Signs and symptoms:
Pain, tenderness, irritation, and foul-smelling discharge.
Steps to follow:
Practice good hygiene.
Wash the area with cleanser or no-soap cleanser twice daily for two months.
Apply Fucidin (Fusidic acid) cream in the daytime for seven days.
Apply Candid (Clotrimazole) or microgel cream at night for two weeks. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.
Swab tests, urine tests, blood tests, and biopsy can be done to investigate further.
Avoid scented soaps and lotions.
Always clean the glans penis after retracting the foreskin.
Wash with warm water.
Dry the area after cleansing.
Do not scratch or rub the lesions.
Avoid chronic friction.
I hope this has helped you.
Please feel free to reach out to me again if you have further queries.
Thank you.
