Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 60-year-old uncle’s reports are attached for details. As per the last report of liver biopsy, they said that he is suffering from rectal cancer, which has impacted his liver. His PSA value is also very high, and as per the previous observation, doctors had an opinion that he might have prostate cancer (before the liver biopsy), which expanded to the liver.
Now, it seems that rectum cancer has infected the prostate and liver somehow. We consulted an oncologist, and he recommended executing chemotherapy immediately, but he has not stated what he would be doing afterward. As I read on this issue, it should either be chemotherapy followed by surgery or surgery followed by chemotherapy. Please suggest in detail what mechanism can be followed to obtain the best results from the treatment.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for reaching out.
A rectal cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the tissues of the rectum, the last part of the large intestine. In your uncle’s case, it has already spread to the liver, and it will spread to other organs soon. The stage of cancer is the last stage because it has spread to the liver, and it might also have spread to the prostate. The good thing is that his hemoglobin (Hb) is still in the normal range. Once it drops, your uncle will need blood transfusions.
Surgery is done first when the cancer has not spread to other organs, and the problem with rectal cancer is similar to that of most cancers. It is also diagnosed in the late stage.
You should trust your oncologist (cancer specialist), but the concerning part is that your uncle does not have much time.
I hope this helps.
If you have further questions, please let me know.
Take care.
