Will a patient's gum tissue regrow and appear even if he trims his front tooth by 0.2 to 0.3 mm?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have invisible braces. One of my front tooth is longer than the other (0.2 to 0.3 mm). The initial plan was to place the tooth higher, but my gumline would look uneven. What do you recommend? Should my dentist trim the tooth by 0.2 to 0.3 mm, or place it higher and hope that the gum tissue grows over time, so it is even again? Is that possible for gum tissue? I know 0.2 mm is not much, but teeth trimming should be a last resort to preventing sensitivity issues at a later age.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your query and attachment (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Therefore, I can understand your concern. If you are using aligners and your treatment is not yet over, you can think of correcting minor leveling issues in the final finishing stage of the aligner. Consult and discuss this issue with your orthodontist and aligner specialist because they can explain that it is included in your finishing stage or plan. If not, you both can discuss and plan for it with a new designing and make a new tray for that. I suggest you undergo leveling of your incisors and get your gum level issue corrected after completing the ortho treatment with the help of a periodontist.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply.

This is the final stage. I know the other teeth are not perfect, but I do not mind. I only want the front teeth to be alright. Unfortunately, I cannot ask my provider. So what do you recommend looking at the picture? If I move the tooth up, will the gum stay high or grow lower towards the gum line? How many millimeters of enamel could I remove at maximum?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

First of all, you should get the treatment from a certified aligner provider and a qualified orthodontist. We cannot predict your gum response at this stage as it varies from case to case. If you are thinking of tooth reduction, I suggest getting it done by a specialist dentist or a cosmetic dentist. They will tell you how much they can do in your case after the clinical examination.
