How do you treat a retinal detachment?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an injury to my right eye that resulted in a partial retinal detachment. Does it require surgery? Can my eye develop serious complications?

Please help.

Answered by Dr. Priyanka

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

It is a long-term detachment and it is not confirmed whether it has resulted in total detachment and whether surgery will be beneficial or not.

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) will not benefit you if vision is less due to retinal detachment. It is important to have a clinical assessment to see the retina's status. Surgeries are relatively safe only if the eye is operable. I suggest you do a preoperative scan for retinal surgery. I would recommend you get your retina check-up done.

I hope it helps.

Thank you.
