Patient's Query

Hi,

I have had ringworms for the past few months, and I have used antifungal cream, but they are still increasing (new ones are coming along with the previous ones increasing in size).

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Fungal (ringworm) infections are known for recurrence. It occurs in many body parts, including the groin and inguinal region.

Do you have diabetes or a family history of diabetes?

Avoidance of moisture and moisture retention is most important to prevent a recurrence. Wear loose cotton wears and innerwear. Avoid sweat retention. The creams have combinations, including steroids, so some exacerbations can occur if stopped.

  • Consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her, and start the medicines with their consent.
  • You can try topical antifungal cream like Terbinafine twice daily.
  • You can take oral antifungals like Fluconazole 150 mg weekly once after consulting your doctor.
  • You can use antifungal dusting powders like Candid and Absorb powder after a bath to prevent a recurrence.

Consult your dermatologist if it does not subside for further examination and management.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Yes, my father's side has diabetes. I have not consulted any dermatologist as I am not in my hometown. Can I take medicine on your recommendation only?

Kindly reply.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the follow-up query.

Please check your sugar levels. Please go for blood tests like FBS (fasting blood sugar), PPBS (Postprandial blood sugar), and HBA1C (Glycated hemoglobin) tests to check your sugar level. Consult a doctor if the levels are high.

Follow other instructions as suggested. You can take creams and tablets as suggested. If there is itching, you can take antihistamines like Cetirizine at night to reduce itching. Consult your dermatologist if it does not subside.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
